Posture, Strength and Ergonomics
Ergonomics is the study of a person’s efficiency in their workplace. These days ‘workplace’ is such a loose term! It can refer to your home, your car or even a cafe. Understanding the positions and angles that your body works best in can help you avoid repetitive strain and recurrent postural injuries. Our osteopaths can help you understand and manage your ergonomics as part of your hands on treatment and we also offer Telehealth video consultations to help you set up your workspace at home or in the office. There are a range of helpful tips and tricks that can be as easy as a ball or foam prop, through to referrals for an ergonomic business chair. We have suggestions which can help you whether you are working from your car or a wooden dining chair.
Kid’s ergonomics
Kids’ growing bodies also suffer from strain if they are required to sit in less than ideal environments for long periods of time. Your osteopath can help you set up your child’s learning space to help them work more productively and without building strain and tension that can lead to back pain and headaches.
Postural correction and strength work
Once you have a grasp on how your workplace is set up, we will then move towards building strength and resilience in your musculoskeletal system so that it can manage extended periods of work time. Ideally our bodies like to move and having forced periods of inactivity can contribute to postural strain. By ‘training’ our postural muscles using strength based exercises our bodies will cope much better with the required sitting. Using the exercise app Physitrack, we can prescribe and monitor your postural exercises to keep you on the right track.
