Children’s Health – Osteo for kids
Growing bodies are constantly changing. As your child grows and develops there can be small stumbling blocks the body needs to overcome to develop into a biomechanically strong, flexible and capable adult.
The osteopaths at Oak Tree Osteopathy are trained to monitor, treat and manage your child as they move through all of their development stages and any hiccups along the way.
Scoliosis
We are primary health care practitioners who can assess for Scoliosis, refer for low dose postural x-rays (EOS) and manage communication between GP’s, specialists and other allied health practitioners. Osteopathic management may include utilising a heel lift, exercise and strength based programs or hands on manual treatment.
‘Growing Pains’
As the body lengthens and stretches the muscles and bones can sometimes grow at different rates. This can be one cause of discomfort in little bodies. Our osteopaths work on keeping balance by gently stretching the muscles and giving space in the joints through traction and articulation to improve blood supply, nerve supply and encourage freedom in the movement of the fascia.
Overuse
Often as kids move into the early teen years their activity sharply increases. Their interest in particular sports results in a new heightened training load. This combined with growth and change in the musculoskeletal system can lead to overuse injuries, particularly in the lower limbs and growth plates. Conditions such as Sever’s and Osgood-Schlatter disease along with traumatic sprains and strains become an important consideration in the health and well being of our kids.
