What is Telehealth?

Telehealth allows you to communicate with your osteopath from the safety of your own home. Telehealth is a private video consult easily accessed from your phone, tablet, ipad or desktop in any location that you have wifi available. You don’t need any special software. Its as easy as clicking the link that we email you and your consult can begin!

Why would you choose Telehealth?

  • You may feel unsure about whether you should visit your primary healthcare professional for advice during this challenging time.
  • You are in the middle of your treatment journey and need to continue your treatment plan.

  • You are interested in learning about guided self-treatment and want the tools to self-manage manage your own ailments.

Once you have clicked the link to access your consultation, we take a detailed case history and instruct you to perform certain movements and tests to help us determine what might be going on. Once we have developed our diagnosis we can then advise you on the best ways to self-manage your issue.

In addition, telehealth can help us provide the following services:

  • Provide advice of self-treatment and exercises to help.
  • Assess your home-based gym/exercise routine and provide guidance.
  • Provide tips on pain management.
  • Recommend the safe use of ice, heat or over-the-counter medications.
  • Refer you for imaging or to the doctor if need be – we may also suggest a call to ‘Nurse on Call’, ’13SICK’, or ‘DOCTORDOCTOR’ if you cant get to your regular doctor.
  • Provide reassurance and support on your issue and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

**Isolation can be very frightening and confronting for some of us so it is important for our patients to know as primary health care practitioners we are a professional ear to discuss your concerns for your health and well being**

What is guided self-treatment?

Guided self-treatment is an excellent skill to develop and essential at this challenging time. Learning how to use your hands, a spiky massage ball or a foam roller to address and treat your own aches and pains opens up so many possibilities and allows you to be self-sufficient and self-reliant.

As osteopaths, we can direct you to position your hands and body in a certain way to help release tight muscles and restricted joints. We can guide you through muscle release, stretching, gentle joint mobilisation and postural positioning to help you help your body work through its issues. Exercise equipment is not necessary but can certainly be incorporated. You may also be surprised how household items can be re-purposed for your body as required!

After you have completed the guided self-treatment component, we may then prescribe some stretching or strength-based exercises which can be provided to you via PhysiApp. This is a free app we provide which will allow you to access your prescribed exercises with the benefit of full video demonstration.

How do I make a Telehealth appointment?

As with any regular appointment you can book your Telehealth appointment using the book online button on our website and choose either a first or subsequent appointment. You will then receive a booking confirmation email with all of the other relevant information to access your appointment.

What do I need for my Telehealth appointment?

Any comfortable clothing is fine. As long as you can move around freely! If you have access to any exercise equipment (eg. spiky ball, stretch bands, foam roller) or massage creams (eg. Fisiocrem) bring these along although they are not necessary. If your session requires exercise rehab or a guided exercise class, we will advise you of any equipment we might need you to have. We can be very ingenious at sourcing home
objects to exercise with!

Many of the services we offer can be delivered very effectively via Telehealth. Considering this, all patients are encouraged to consider a telehealth appointment.
